Man wanted for questioning in Hialeah women's death is convicted felon

Neighbors say victim recently broke up with Adrian Leyva

HIALEAH, Fla. – Neighbors said a man wanted for questioning in the death of two women in Hialeah was the ex-boyfriend of one of the victims and lived at the duplex with her.

Police are not calling Adrian Leyva a suspect or person of interest at this time, but believe he may know how his ex-girlfriend Tina Gutierrez, 32, and her neighbor Martha Gomez, 82, were killed.

"He was jealous. Maybe there was another man in her life," Gutierrez's neighbor Mary Barquin said.

Gutierrez and Gomez were found dead Monday night at their duplex in the 900 block of East 23rd Street.

The women were discovered by Gomez's daughter, who rushed to the home after her mother repeatedly failed to answer her phone calls.

"She came and knocked and knocked on the door and no response. She saw the air conditioner was running, the lights were on and that's when something clicked that something just wasn't right," Barquin said.

The daughter borrowed someone's hammer and screwdriver and pried the door open.

"When she did, there was her mom. Maybe she heard something or saw something," Barquin said. "It could have been me. She was at the wrong place at the wrong time."

Neighbors said Leyva and Gutierrez were in a rocky relationship and she recently had kicked him out of the home.

Leyva is a convicted felon who goes by many alias.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
