Man who allegedly attacked elderly woman expected in court

Son: 93-year-old mother out of hospital following alleged sexual assault

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A man accused of attacking and trying to sexually assault an elderly woman in her home is expected to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.

The original court date for Clyde Leandre, 22, had been rescheduled because he was being treated in the hospital for injuries he suffered when police used a Taser on him.

According to responding deputies, Leandre, who they described as having the strength of 10 men, appeared to be on drugs.

The victim's son told Local 10 News reporter Roger Lohse that his mother is well, is out of the hospital and has been moved to a rehab facility.

The 93-year-old victim was attacked in her bedroom at the Highland Gardens apartments about 2:30 a.m. Monday after Leandre allegedly snuck into the public housing development for the elderly and disabled.

Police records show Leandre has wracked up numerous criminal charges since turning 18 years old four years ago.

Since then, he has been arrested on charges for aggravated assault with a firearm, burglary, robbery and throwing a deadly missile into a vehicle. This time, he is charged with burglary, kidnapping and sexual assault.
