Man with Down syndrome sought by North Miami Beach police

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A 30-year-old man with Down syndrome is currently being sought by North Miami Beach police.

Thomas Emmanuel Monroy was last seen at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 163rd Street and NE 34th Avenue.

Monroy was last seen by his mother boarding a bus traveling westbound on NE 163rd Street, police said.

Monroy left home to search for a necklace with a lion head pendant. According to Monroy's family he has never ridden public transportation and he does not know his way home.

Authorities said Monroy was wearing a black T-shirt, red shorts, black high tops sneakers with blue trims and black sunglasses. He has bracelets on his arm with skulls.

Monroy speaks English and Spanish. Police said he is self-sufficient but is illiterate.

Police described Monroy as a white Hispanic man who is 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes, and has crooked overlapped teeth.
