Woman tied up, beaten to death, police say

Authorities found body of Laura Cuni at Public Storage facility

CUTLER BAY, Fla. – Miami-Dade homicide detectives are investigating after a body was found Friday at a Public Storage facility in Cutler Bay.

Police said the body was found in the morning at the Public Storage at 10505 Marlin Road.

Sky 10 was above the scene shortly before 1 p.m. and saw detectives still in the area.

Police said the body was determined to be that of the business' manager, Laura Cuni, 54, who was found dead in a back office.

A law enforcement source said she had been tied up and beaten to death.

The Public Storage facility closed at 6 p.m. Thursday and Cuni never returned home.

Miami-Dade police said Cuni lived in an apartment that was located at the facility. Her friend, who had been staying with her, called police about 6:30 a.m. Friday when she didn't hear from Cuni, authorities said.

"Uniformed officers responded to what was believed to be an abduction. When uniformed officers arrived they did find Laura Cuni deceased inside," Miami-Dade police spokeswoman Jennifer Capote said.

Public Storage released a statement expressing its sorrow over the loss of one of the company's long-time employees.

"We are saddened and heartbroken to learn of the loss of a talented coworker and property manager, who was found deceased at our Marlin Road property in Miami, Fla., this morning," the statement said. "Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to our coworker's family, friends and customers in Miami who worked closely with her."

A company representative said they are cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
