Masked gunman robs Jewelry by Lana in Weston

Robber gets away with thousands worth of rings, diamond earrings, bracelets

WESTON, Fla. ā€“ Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are trying to find a man who robbed a Weston jewelry store, getting away with thousands of dollars worth of rings, diamond earrings and diamond bracelets.

The armed robbery occurred Tuesday night at Jewelry by Lana on Weston Road.

BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said Sam Cohen was preparing to close the store for the evening when he heard the doorbell ring. Assuming it was the last customer who had left only minutes before, Cohen pressed the buzzer to open the door.

Surveillance video shows a man standing outside the store holding the door open as another man holding a cardboard box enters.

The masked man pointed a gun at Cohen and forced him to open several display cases while the man placed the jewelry in the box.

"I said to him, 'I'm going to cooperate with you. I'm not going to do anything. I'm just going to follow whatever you tell me,'" Cohen told Local 10 News.

Cohen said the gun was "huge."

"The guy meant business," he said. "He didn't hesitate for a second."

Cohen said a man entered the store the day before and didn't say a word, but he kept looking around the store. He thinks that man was planning the heist, checking the prices of the jewelry on display.

"I'm very lucky I'm alive," Cohen said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the BSO at 954-321-4270 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
