Mass held for University of Miami graduate killed in crash

Dino Ghilotti graduated days before crash

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami School of Business held a mass for Dino Ghilotti, who was killed in a crash near the Coral Gables campus a few days after graduating.

The mass for the 21-year-old graduate was held at St. Augustine Church on Monday evening. A statement released by the university said Ghilotti was a business major who was about to join his family's construction business after he celebrated his graduation Friday.

The crash happened about 4:30 a.m. Sunday at Bird Road and San Amaro Drive. On Monday, his relatives left flowers at the intersection (pictured above right).

It's unclear what led up to the crash. Ghilotti was riding as a passenger in a BWM X3 driven by Allison Meyer (pictured right), Coral Gables police said. Ghilotti's friends told Local 10 that Meyer, another University of Miami student, was Ghilotti's girlfriend.

Meyer wasn't injured in the crash.

Rosalia Prado, who was driving the other car, was transported to the hospital with an arm injury, police said.

Gustavo Montes' wife was in that vehicle. He said Meyer ran a stop sign and was somewhat unresponsive after the crash.

So far, no charges have been filed.

Michelle Ghilotti Mandel posted to his Facebook wall, writing: "My family and I are grieving an immeasurable loss. For any of you who didn't know Dino Cat-dAddy Ghilotti, he was what I liked to call our family's 'fireplace'... he always brought us together in such a warm and wonderful way. He was the life of the party, extremely loving, compassionate and self-less. You will be sorely missed, little brother. Sorely, sorely missed."
