Matthew Bent in court on burglary, grand theft charges

Bent sentenced in 2009 fiery attack on Michael Brewer

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A teenager convicted of orchestrating an attack on a middle school classmate who was soaked in alcohol and lit ablaze returned to court Friday on burglary and grand theft charges related to the case.

Matthew Bent was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the 2009 attack on Michael Brewer.

The burglary and grand theft charges stem from testimony that Bent tried stealing Brewer's bicycle. Prosecutors said they offered Bent a plea deal but it has since been revoked.

On Friday, prosecutors asked for a continuance in the case so they could find witnesses.

The hearing was reset to July 11.
