Metromover Inner Loop functional after fatal construction accident

Oscar Cabrera, 43, fell to his death, firefighters say

MIAMI – The Inner Loop of the Metromover was operational again on Thursday, a day after a construction worker fell to his death and another worker was rescued from a ledge. 

Miami-Dade County Transit posted about the service restoration on Twitter.

A Local 10 News camera captured footage of a boom crane being removed from the area of  Northwest First Avenue and Northwest Fifth Street in downtown Miami. 

Miami Department of Fire-Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said Oscar Cabrera, 43, and Luis Perez, 37, were working on the Brightline project early Wednesday when a Metromover car slammed into their boom crane bucket. 

Cabrera fell to the ground and was pronounced dead at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Perez was found dangling from his safety harness before being rescued. He was treated and later released.

Investigators confirmed both men were wearing safety gear. 

Baker Concrete Construction, for whom the men work, said it was cooperating with the investigation into the fall.
