Miami Airport Watch helps MIA security spot criminals

Amateur photographers trained by Miami-Dade police

MIAMI – They call themselves the Miami Airport Watch and they love to hang out at the airport.

"We talk about aviation and watch the planes come in, and take pictures," said Miami Watch member Victor Lopez.

Lopez and his group meet up on the perimeter of Miami International, take pictures and share what they see with the world.

"We like to see the different logos on the planes and share it with one another. We even have a Facebook page, said Lopez.

Security officials at Miami International Airport soon realized this watch group could be extra eyes and ears for their security.

So with Miami-Dade police trainers, 19 volunteer photographers are getting training in everything from terrorism to profiling and bombs.

Since these shutterbugs like looking at the airport anyway, it's a labor of love.
