Miami cop appears in bond court on DUI, drug charges

Bond set at $12,000 for Christopher Vital

MIAMI – A Miami police officer arrested on DUI and drug charges in Miami Beach appeared in bond court Friday morning.

Christopher Vital, 29, appeared before a judge in a suicide vest. His bond was set at $12,000. He is expected to bond out by Friday afternoon.

Vital was arrested early Thursday morning after police said Vital sped past several emergency vehicles on the MacArthur Causeway, reaching a speed of at least 100 mph.

When police conducted a traffic stop, they found marijuana, heroin and cocaine in Vital's BMW.

Vital is charged with  DUI, driving with a suspended license, possession of narcotics and criminal mischief.

Stephanie Malvin, who was a passenger in his car, was also arrested on drug charges.

She was granted $10,000 bond on Friday.

Hours after Vital's arrest the Miami Police Department released a statement saying Vital was "relieved of his police duties without pay pending his termination."
