MIAMI - A Miami-Dade police officer has been arrested and charged with deprivation of civil rights, said the U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday.
Prabhainjana Dwivedi has since been released on $150,000 bond.
Prosecutors said Dwivedi detained several people without lawful authority to do so.
According to the arrest affidavit, Dwivedi stopped at least four women without probable cause. He also acted inappropriately toward them, including having one driver expose her breasts and another take him to her home for a drink.
Dwivedi worked the midnight shift and patrolled Key Biscayne, near Jackson Memorial Hospital, and the Metrorail.
If convicted, Dwivedi, an eight-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department, faces up to one year in prison for each count. His arraignment is scheduled for September 19.
