MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins got ready for their first scrimmage of the season at Sun Life Stadium.
The team held a walkthrough at its Davie practice facility on Monday morning. At the scrimmage, fans hoped to see second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill hook up with wide receiver Mike Wallace.
"I'm excited about how things are going with Mike," said Tannehill. "A speed receiver, it's going to take a few reps to get 100 percent comfortable just putting the ball on the right spot downfield, and we're getting better every day."
"Work after practice is going to get us there," added Wallace. "Like I said, we got a long way to go, we have a long off-season, preseason. We got time to prepare and I think that by the time we get to where we need to be at, we'll be fine."
Head coach Joe Philbin said fans should expect a game-like atmosphere at the scrimmage, where he'll continue to evaluate his team.
"I want to provide an opportunity for each one of these players, who have worked extremely hard, give them an opportunity to compete for a position on the squad, so we're going to get a look at everybody, at a variety of different roles," he said. "I'm looking for guys who can communicate. Part of the thing we're looking for is who can communicate on the field collectively without the coaching staff making calls, making adjustments, as sometimes happens in practice."
"This is the first game-like situation and we get to actually play out in the stadium, so I'm definitely excited," added tight end Dion Sims. "It's a test to see. The players are just going to play and the coaches going to coach, so it's up to us to just show what we got."
First-round pick Dion Jordan, who made his debut at training camp last week, said he wants to prove the team was right to draft him third overall.
"Our players are excited about it, and I know as an organization we're excited about going over to Sun Life Stadium. I'm sure out fans are excited as well," added Philbin.
"I'm going to do whatever they ask me to do," said Jordan.
The scrimmage, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m.
