Miami PD hosts head-shaving benefit honoring Bella Rodriguez-Torres

Rodriguez-Torres died last month after being diagnosed with stage 4 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma in 2007

MIAMI – The Miami Police Department is hosting a head-shaving benefit event for Bella Rodriguez-Torres, who died last week from a rare and aggressive pediatric cancer.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation hopes to raise $50,000 at Bella 2013. The event is being held at the Miami Police Department Auditorium, located at 400 NW 2nd Avenue. It began at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Nearly 40 people have registered to shave their heads, according to the department.

Rodriguez-Torres was diagnosed with stage 4 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma in 2007 when she was 4 years old. She died on May 28.

Miami Heat star LeBron James mentioned Rodriguez-Torres during his post-game interview following Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. James and Dwyane Wade also wrote "live like Bella" on their shoes for Game 4 of the series.
