Miami police investigate 2 possibly connected carjackings

Detectives believe early morning carjackings are related

MIAMI – Miami police are investigating two early morning armed carjackings that may be connected.

In the first incident, which happened at 1 a.m. Tuesday, detectives said one man was leaving his home in the 2400 block of Southwest 25th Street and got into his vehicle when a man approached him and put a gun to his head. Police said the gunman ordered the man to lie face down on the ground.

A second man approached the victim, went through his pockets and stole his belongings, police said..

The armed man then fled in the victim's 2011 midnight blue Chevy Camaro, followed by his partner-in-crime in an unknown make and model vehicle, police said.

The armed carjacker is described by police as a heavy-set black man in his early 20s who is about 5 feet 11 inches tall, clean-shaven and wore a black Skully cap.

In the second carjacking at 6 a.m. Tuesday, detectives said a man left his home in the 500 block of Southwest Tenth Street and got into his vehicle when a man approached and put a gun to his head.

Police said he demanded that the victim lie face down on the ground, but first hit him on the head; in fear of receiving a further beating, the pretended to act dead.

A second victim was sitting in the rear passenger seat and was also taken out of the vehicle at gunpoint, police said. A second carjacker approached and stole both victims' belongings.

Both robbers fled the scene. Police said the armed carjacker fled in the victim's 2007 silver Mercedes Benz R-350, followed by his partner in an unknown make and model vehicle.

The armed carjacker was described by police as a slim black man in his 20 to mid-30s and is about 5 feet 11 inches tall.

The injured victims were treated at the scene by Miami Fire Rescue. Detectives believe the cases may be related.
