Miami police say shooting happened after men took victim's gold chain

MIAMI – A man was taken to the hospital after police say he was shot in the stomach as a result of an apparent robbery.

The incident happened Sunday evening before 7 p.m. at Northwest 17th Avenue and 16th Street.

Police said three men approached the man as he stood by the driver's side of his black Ford F-150 pickup truck.

According to Miami police detectives, the robbers demanded the man's gold chain. Before fleeing, however, police said one of the robbers shot the man in the abdomen.

The man was transported via Miami Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Unit in extremely critical condition, said police.

Miami police said the suspects are described as possibly one Hispanic man and two black men.

Police said they need witnesses that may know something to come forward. Police don't know if the men fled on foot or in a car.
