Miami students want you to help wild birds in Florida Keys

Miam-Dade College students use art to help rescuing migratory birds

MIAMI – For the love of wild birds, a group of Miami-Dade College students was hosting an online auction that closes Tuesday.

Claudia Scalise, an art professor at the college, and a few of her students used wood to carve owls, flamingos and other birds.

They want to raise money for The Florida Keys Wild Bird rehabilitation Center, an organization based out of Tavernier. They rescue migratory wild birds and run both the Laura Quinn Wild Bird Sanctuary and the Wild Bird Hospital.

The students were auctioning 12 pieces. The minimum bid ranged from $25 to $45. For more information, e-mail Britany Ziems at bziems1@mdc.edu.
