DORAL, Fla. – The Miami-Dade Police Department is mourning the death of a beloved K-9 officer.
Rocco, seen in the above photo, died this week after a battle with prostate cancer.

The Belgian Malinois, 9, joined the force in 2006.
He worked for seven years with officer Andy Giordani.
During his career, the department said Rocco apprehended 72 subjects and conducted approximately 670 searches.
During one of those arrests, Rocco was shot in the line of duty while defending his human partner. Rocco returned to work after weeks of treatment.
The department wrote on its Facebook page that Rocco, "will be greatly missed by his extended police family."
