Miami-Dade police officer injured in crash

Crash happened at Okeechobee Road, Northwest 138th Street

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Miami-Dade police officer was injured in a crash Thursday morning.

The crash happened at the intersection of Okeechobee Road and Northwest 138th Street.

Detective Marjorie Eloi said the officer was traveling south on Okeechobee Road when a Toyota Corolla attempted to turn onto Northwest 138th Street and struck the police cruiser, sending it into a concrete wall.

The officer, identified as James Boone, 47, was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities believe he may have suffered a broken clavicle.

A K-9 was in the police cruiser at the time of the crash. The dog wasn't injured but was taken to an animal hospital as a precaution.

Boone is a 23-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department.
