Military flare washes up at Bahia Honda State Park

Bomb squad called twice for flares in two weeks

BIG PINE KEY, Fla. – For the second time in two weeks, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office dispatched a bomb squad to recover a military marker flare that had washed up at Bahia Honda State Park on Big Pine Key.

On Wednesday, officials found a flare on the top of a trash can, meaning someone had previously handled the object after finding it on the beach or in the water.

The Sheriff's Office is warning people to not touch the flares and instead, mark their location and notify the police.
