Police said an alert news viewer called the Local 10 News desk shortly after the original story aired, alerting them to a potential sighting.

Local 10 News then notified police, who in turn worked with the Miami Beach Police Department to quickly find Jurnee.

"Thanks to the dedicated and outstanding work of law enforcement and local media this case was resolved and Jurnee is in protective custody at this time," Sunny Isles Beach police said in a statement.

Jurnee was reunited with her parents Friday night, authorities said.

"The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department and the parents of Jurnee would like to express our deepest appreciation to all local media and to all the viewers who helped to locate Jurnee," the department said in a statement.

Sunny Isles Beach police said Jurnee was last seen on surveillance video hastily walking through the front door at Norman S. Edelcup Sunny Isles Beach K-8 shortly before 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Her first-period teacher said Jurnee wasn't in class.

Police said the details surrounding Jurnee's disappearance are still under investigation.
