MLK Day events kick off Monday in South Florida

Parades will be held in both Fort Lauderdale and Miami

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Monday marks Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and people across South Florida will be celebrating the late civil rights activist's work.

Fort Lauderdale will be hosting its annual King Holiday Parade and Non-Violence March. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. at Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and  Sistrunk Boulevard.

At 11:30 a.m., a battle of the bands competition will be held at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale.

In Liberty City, Day of Unity Miami is hosting its annual parade. That parade kicks off at 11 a.m. and runs along Northwest 54th Street from 12th to 32nd avenues.

The parade ends with a celebration and festival at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park.
