Cars line up at Miramar gas station for cheap gas

Price for gallon of regular unleaded gas falls below $3 at gas station

MIRAMAR, Fla. – There were long lines Wednesday at one Miramar gas station, where the price at the pump for regular unleaded was almost too good to be true.

For the first time in almost four years, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded has fallen below $3 at a Shell gas station at SR 7 and Miramar Parkway.

Ecstatic drivers doing something they haven't done in years flashed a smile while filling up, calculating the money saved -- not spent -- with $2.99 a gallon sparking a fuel frenzy. Some people even decided to stock up on gas.

AAA's Mark Jenkins told Local 10 the downward price trend is expected to last through at least Thanksgiving, even possibly until the new year.

Jenkins said the welcomed price plunge is the result of a drop in crude-oil prices and a boom in domestic production.

Some consumer experts said lower gas prices could translate to a smaller grocery bill since the cost to transport food products will be lower, along with possibly cheaper airline tickets.
