TAMARAC, Fla. – Military veterans from Tamarac were honored Monday with a new monument that was placed around the eternal flame at Veterans Memorial Park.
Six-hundred names are now attached to the plexiglass wall that will shine bright during the day and glow at night.
"One of them will be my name and it'll be up there forever," veteran Mark Nunez said. "I actually have my wife to thank. She actually submitted my name to the Tamarac organization and I'm just so grateful."
A tradition now ingrained in the heart of Tamarac is a sight known as the Veterans Honor Wall.
Hundreds of people attended the ceremony that was blessed by city leaders, intrigued veterans and their families.
Veteran Howard King told Local 10 News that "peace of mind" is what he gets from coming to the park and seeing the monument.
Monday's ceremony also honored the recent Purple Heart recipients from South Florida.
The city is still taking names of veterans for the wall, as they still have space for about 1,000 more.
