More than 200 gallons of diesel fuel spills at Margate gas station

Firefighters contain spill with sand

MARGATE, Fla. – Margate firefighters have contained a diesel fuel spill that occurred Wednesday morning at a Marathon gas station.

Fire officials said a tank truck driver put the hose in the tank and began pumping at the gas station at 5628 NW Eighth Street. He then went inside the station to fill out paperwork.

The coupling on the tank failed, which caused the hose to dislodge and spill more than 200 gallons of diesel fuel.

Firefighters were able to contain the spill with sand before it reached a nearby canal.
