More than 30,000 jobs added in Miami area last month

Unemployment rate declines over year in metro area by 0.8 percent

MIAMI – More than 30,000 jobs were added last month in the Miami area, the third-highest number of jobs among all metro areas, Gov. Rick Scott announced Friday.

The area's unemployment rate also declined by 0.8 percent since May 2014.

"With more than 30,000 new jobs in Miami over the year in May, Miami's economy continues to have impressive growth," Scott said. "Families across Florida are finding more opportunities to succeed, and we will continue to do all we can to build our economy and create new jobs."

The industries with the largest reported job gains since last May in the metro area were trade, transportation and utilities.

Education, health services, leisure and hospitality also saw an increase in job gains.

Meanwhile, Florida's unemployment rate last month was 5.7 percent.
