Inspectors with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation were busy in South Florida last week.

State Records show a total of 12 restaurants were ordered shut, statewide, last week.

More than half were in our area.

Below is a list of the restaurants and some of the violations found.

28 VIOLATIONS

“Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. 57 fresh rodent droppings in food storage room near cook-line. 1 fresh rodent dropping on top of dish machine. 1 fresh rodent dropping under table at cook-line. 1 fresh rodent dropping on shelving in dish washing area. 2 fresh rodent droppings in servers station. 2 dry rodent droppings in servers station.”

“Toxic substance/chemical stored in food preparation area with potential to cause cross contamination. Rubbing alcohol above food prep area.”

“Employee touching ready-to-eat food with their bare hands - food was not being heated as a sole ingredient to 145 degrees F or immediately added to other ingredients to be cooked/heated to the minimum required temperature to allow bare hand contact. Establishment has no approved Alternative Operating Procedure. While peeling potatoes for later use. Wear gloves.”

“Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. Found 27 plus live roaches in the kitchen behind and under the reach in cooler.”

“Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. 15 fresh and 7 dry rodent droppings inside cook line cooler at cook line.”

“Raw meat/poultry cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Chicken at 74° F at cook line under no temperature control. Placed in cooler must discard within 4 hours from leaving temperature control.”

"Equipment in poor repair. Can opener stand rusted.”
