Montoya's son was found wandering around Southeast Park alone about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, and people at the park called 911. Police said it appeared the boy was left alone in the apartment and walked out of the apartment by himself.

Authorities said Montoya voluntarily showed up at the Hialeah Police Department's headquarters at 6 p.m. Friday.

Montoya had left her 3-year-old boy home alone and later delayed her reappearance when she learned Hialeah police was investigating the incident, according to police.

The child was said to be in excellent condition and was released by Department of Children and Families agents to the temporary custody of his biological father, who Montoya recently separated from.

Montoya has been charged with one count of child neglect, a third-degree felony.
