Motorcycle officer injured in crash

Accident results in lower back and leg injury

MIAMI – A Miami police officer was injured in a crash on the Dolphin Expressway early Tuesday morning.

The veteran officer was on his motorcycle heading westbound when he crashed while exiting at NW 72nd Avenue. Miami police say that the officer slid on road debris causing him to fall off of his motorcycle.

"There's a lot of road debris, a lot of construction and that seems to be a contributing factor," said Miami Police Spokesman Sgt. Freddy Cruz.

The officer was on-duty at the time of the accident and it is unclear if he was escorting someone or on his way to work.

The officer suffered injuries to his lower back and leg and he was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment. Miami Police tell Local 10 that the officer is in good condition.

The motorman has been with the Miami Police Department for more than 15 years.

"This is a family, a brotherhood, and we want to make sure that whatever he needs we're here for him," said Cruz.
