POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - A motorcyclist in his 20s has died in a crash in the 2500 block of West Sample Road in Pompano Beach, deputies said.

Witnesses told detectives the man on the motorcycle appeared to be traveling westbound above the posted speed limit of 45 mph when he collided with a Dodge minivan making a northbound turn.

Authorities said the woman driving the minivan cut in front of the motorcyclist and apparently did not see him. The motorcycle was sheared in half.

The motorcyclist was thrown about 150 feet from his bike. Pompano Beach paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver of the van was not injured, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The westbound lanes of West Sample Road reopened before 7 p.m. Wednesday after being shut down so traffic homicide detectives could investigate the fatal crash.
