DAVIE, Fla. -

Davie Fire Department transported three people injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on Florida's Turnpike to a nearby hospital.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes near Griffin Road at mile marker 54 about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, as traffic was slowing down and stopping, the driver of a dump truck did not stop in time and hit a sport utility vehicle.

The impact sent that SUV over the center divider and into the southbound lanes, creating the chain reaction accident which involved a total of eight vehicles.

Davie Fire Department Captain Tony Tricarico said nine people were treated at the scene.

Several lanes were blocked due to the crash. All northbound lanes reopened after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
