New video shows fugitive allegedly robbing South Carolina Verizon store before capture

Matthew Pryor, 30, faces judge in Knoxville, Tennessee

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Local 10 News obtained new video of the man who allegedly opened fire on a Miami-Dade police officer and then, days later, shot a cop in Tennessee.

Prior to gunning down a police officer in Tennessee, Matthew Pryor, 30, allegedly couldn't resist pulling off one last crime at a Verizon Wireless store in Gaffney, South Carolina. Pryor was caught on camera pulling an armed robbery.

At the time, police had no idea who he was and immediately posted photos from inside the store, hoping the public could identify him.

But moments after the robbery, surveillance cameras behind the store captured the same man, with a woman, creeping along a fence line. On the video it appears a police officer driving through the alley calls them over. Pryor bolted, gun in hand.

A day later, in Knoxville, Tennessee, a police officer spotted a stolen sports utility vehicle in the parking lot of a motel and began going door-to-door. The door to room 316 flew open when Officer Jimmy Wilson knocked, and the man inside fired a shot, hitting Wilson in the chest. His ballistic vest saved his life.

The suspect, later identified as Pryor, surrendered.

This week, Pryor went before a judge in Knoxville, where he waived his right to a preliminary hearing on a couple of charges in exchange for early and open discovery. That means the defense attorneys can go ahead and review all of the evidence against Pryor before it goes to the grand jury.
