No arrests made in Miami Gardens illegal fireworks sting

Sky King Fireworks to reopen following inspection

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Authorities said no one will be arrested after about $1 million worth of illegal fireworks were seized Tuesday at a warehouse in Miami Gardens.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said they received a tip to check out Sky King Fireworks at 17401 Northwest Second Ave.

Police said the fireworks, which were found in the back of the warehouse, varied in size, but all of them shoot and explode, which is illegal in Miami-Dade County.

Workers expressed their frustration that the same fireworks are for sale in Broward County, arguing that there is nothing to stop someone from purchasing them there and setting them off in Miami-Dade County.

"It's the same stuff TNT sells," worker Mitchell Fleischer told Local 10 News. "We carry the same exact stuff. I don't know what the big deal is."

The fireworks are illegal to sell in Miami-Dade County, but not to possess.

Chief Alan Cominsky said workers will have to remove the illegal fireworks and fire marshals will have to conduct another inspection before the store can reopen. He said employees are cooperating.
