Norland state champs finally receive their championship rings

Thanks to local fundraising efforts

Miami Gardens, Fla – For the second year in a row, the Miami Norland Sr. High School Boys Basketball team became state champions, but couldn't afford their championship rings until we stepped in.

Now they can continue to celebrate because after we brought you the story back in April, generous Local 10 viewers and other donors such as Alonzo and Tracy Mourning, The Irie Foundation, and Vera Cadillac contributed more than $1700 dollars to help them get their rings.

"We want our 2012-2013 Miami Norland Boys Basketball team to feel the same pride as players like Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, James Jones, and Udonis Haslem feel when they slip their rings on," said Norland alumni Lisa Lee Arneaud and Mariela M. Gonzalez. "Championship rings symbolize the hard work and dedication these men have towards their community, family, & self."

The basketball team and coach would like to thank everyone who donated. The players promise in the near future to pay this great deed forward.
