North Dakota man dies after snorkeling in Florida Keys

George Hsu, 72, pronounced dead at Lower Keys Medical Center

KEY WEST, Fla. – A man visiting the Florida Keys from North Dakota died after snorkeling Sunday afternoon.

George Hsu, 72, was on a boat with his wife, brother and sister-in-law about 2 p.m.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said Hsu was snorkeling near Looe Key Reef when he called for help. His wife saw that he was in distress and, with the help of others, pulled him into the boat.

They attempted CPR on Hsu until a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission boat arrived and took Hsu to a nearby marina.

Hsu was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
