Off-duty corrections officer accidentally fires gun outside of Shooters

Officer told police he was looking for valet ticket when he triggered, fired gun

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – An off-duty Miami-Dade corrections officer accidentally fired his weapon after leaving the Shooters Waterfront Café.

The unidentified officer told police he was looking for a valet ticket when he triggered and fired the gun. The shot sent ricocheting shrapnel in different directions.

Several people were injured, Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman DeAnna Greenlaw said.

Most of the people injured were treated at the scene.

The officer called his supervisor and met with Miami-Dade internal affairs officers, police said. They labeled the shooting as accidental.
