Off-duty Miami police officer, wife seriously injured in head-on collision in Tennessee

MIAMI ā€“ A 23-year veteran officer with the Miami Police Department and his wife were seriously injured in a head-on motorcycle crash with someone who was driving under the influence of alcohol and methamphetamines in Tennessee, the department said.

Miami police said Detective Antonio "Tony" Torres and his wife were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville to undergo life-saving surgeries.

Torres has been listed in serious but stable condition and is scheduled for additional surgery later this week, while his wife is listed in stable condition. She remains hospitalized.

The Miami Police Department said it is supporting the Torres family spiritually, morally and financially and added that anyone in the community is welcome to make monetary donations to the Police Officer Assistance Trust.

Police said the person who was driving under the influence was arrested by local authorities.
