Miami police officer injured in crash

Officer taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with head injuries

MIAMI – A Miami police officer was injured in a crash Sunday at Northwest 27th Avenue and West Flagler Street.

Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Fallat said the officer was attempting to turn left onto Northwest First Street shortly after 12:30 p.m. when his cruiser collided with a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant.

The impact of the crash was so severe that the officer's cruiser ended up about 100 yards from the site of the crash.

Fallat said the officer was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with head injuries. She said he is undergoing tests but is expected to be OK.

The driver of the Galant suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
