4 arrested after shots fired at officer in Fort Lauderdale

Undercover officer didn't return fire

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Four suspects were arrested after shots were fired at an undercover officer in Fort Lauderdale, police said.

An undercover officer was working early Monday morning when he observed a suspicious vehicle driving through a residential neighborhood, Fort Lauderdale police Detective DeAnna Greenlaw said.

The officer followed the vehicle and attempted to make contact when shots were fired, Greenlaw said. The officer did not return fire, she said.

Officers later spotted the vehicle, pulled it over, took two people into custody and recovered two guns. They chased another suspect who fled the initial scene and took that person into custody.

A fourth suspect trying to hide in the water was also apprehended.

Police could be seen searching a white Jeep Cherokee that was later towed from the scene. It was unclear if the Jeep was the vehicle from which shots were fired or the officer's vehicle.
