MIAMI - On this date, a massive storm slammed into California on this date in 1982. The system dropped up to 25 inches of rain on the San Francisco Bay Area, causing mudslides and claiming the lives of 36 people. Squaw Valley, Calif., received between 6-8 feet of snow in 24 hours, while Echo Summit set the state's 24-hour snowfall record when it received 67 inches of snow.
