MIAMI – A patient at a clinic in Brickell tested negative for Ebola on Saturday afternoon after complaining of symptoms related with the virus.
"CDC guidelines were utilized to determine that an individual was not at risk for Ebola," said an official from Florida's Joint Information Center.
The patient, who has not been identified, went to the Baptist Health Medical Plaza in Brickell and showed symptoms that caused the staff to follow protocols set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Miami Fire Rescue was called and told about the patient, who would have needed to be in isolation.
Capt. Ignatius Carroll said they lined a fire truck with plastic and began other preparations for the isolation.
However, by the time fire rescue arrived to the urgent-care clinic, they were told the patient was no longer a "risk."
An ambulance was called and the patient was transferred to an unknown hospital.
This incident is the third in the past month in which a South Florida patient caught attention from local medical professionals. All cases have turned out to be a false alarm of Ebola.
The epidemic has claimed thousands of lives, affecting West African countries the most. It has been noted as the largest Ebola outbreak in history.
