Patricia Atkins-Grad faces recall election

Special election will cost Tamarac at least $48,000

TAMARAC, Fla. – Patricia Atkins-Grad will face a recall election on October 15 after refusing to resign from her Tamarac City Commission seat.

Polls in Tamarac's District 2 will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters can cast their ballots absentee or in person.

In Dec. 2012, jurors acquitted Atkins-Grad of accepting bribes from two real estate developers in exchange for her vote on a housing project. Her attorney said she was politically naive.

This is the first recall election in Broward County in more than 50 years, and was forced after a committee gathered more than 2,500 signatures.

The cost of the recall election will be at least $48,000, which will have to be paid by the city.
