Pedestrian hit by car on State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes

Woman pronounced dead at scene

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. ā€“ The southbound lane of State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes was closed for several hours Tuesday morning after a pedestrian was struckĀ  by a car.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said traffic homicide detectives are investigating the crash along State Road 7 near Northwest 41st Street.

A view from Sky 10 showed a tarp in the road covering the body.

Witnesses told Local 10 News reporter Layron Livingston that the woman stepped out in front of the car and was not in a crosswalk. They said it appeared that she was trying to cross the street to get to the bus stop.

According to witnesses, the driver was heading to work when he couldn't avoid hitting the woman.

"They always do that. She's another one, and I was just telling her, 'Don't cross up there. Go to the lights, always come to the light," Gloria Russell said.

"This is just an example of, you know, take precaution because anything can happen," another woman who lives nearby, Cislyn Brass, said.

Livingston also spoke to the son of the driver.

"It's all fresh. It's still happening. (I'm) just trying to deal with it and be respectful," Dameon Robinson said. "That's someone's mom, someone's sister, someone's daughter."

The woman's identity was not immediately released.
