Pembroke Pines officers capture gator roaming residential area

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Pembroke Pines police helped capture an alligator Friday that was roaming a residential area.

A woman who lives in the 19000 block of Northwest 13th Street said two officers and a trapper removed the gator, which is estimated to be about 6 feet long, from the neighborhood.

Photos show the gator with its front legs tied behind its back in the back of a pickup truck.

The woman who first discovered the gator told Local 10 News reporter Andrew Perez that the reptile was missing a portion of its tail, so Animal Control assumes that it was attacked by a larger alligator and decided to leave the nearby lake.

"I wanted to make sure we called the authorities, because people walk with their strollers and I was afraid that it would move," Almas Khiyani said.

Residents in the area said they've seen gators in their neighborhood before, some that were even larger than this one.

Authorities warn people to call a professional if they spot an alligator in a residential area.

It's unclear where the gator was taken.
