PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. - Phil Collins has purchased a Miami Beach home that once belonged to fellow celebrity Jennifer Lopez.
The former Genesis frontman and "In the Air Tonight" singer Monday bought the waterfront estate at 5800 N. Bay Road for $33 million, Realtor Nelson Gonzalez told Local10.com.
Built in 1929, the 12,153-square-foot estate underwent a massive renovation that began in 2005 and took several years to complete. It has seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, three half-bathrooms, a two-story rotunda foyer, a wine cellar, a gymnasium, a swimming pool that provides a view of the downtown Miami skyline overlooking Biscayne Bay and a huge poolside spa that is "bigger than most swimming pools," Gonzalez said.
Miami-Dade County property records show that Lopez sold the property to Mark Gainor and his wife for $13.9 million in 2005.

Asked why he thought the property was so attractive to celebrities, Gonzalez wasted little time answering.
"Because it's the perfect storm," he said. "It has the best lot, the best view and it's an incredibly great house."
Gonzalez said a waterfront property in Miami Beach that is more than an acre is "extremely hard to find."
"And if you find it, you have to pay for it," Gonzalez said.
Collins' property is about 53,000 square feet.
The property was sold for less than its $37.5 million listing price.
"Frankly speaking, I think Phil Collins got a pretty good deal on this house," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said that Collins "loved the house" and was "extremely pleasant to deal with."
That's saying something for Gonzalez, who has worked with Cher and Billy Joel in the past. Gonzalez said they were all pleasant, but Collins was "extraordinarily nice."
