Pizza delivery man calls 911 after Key West man allegedly threatens wife, children

Taurean Roberts accused of attacking family while picking up items from home

STOCK ISLAND, Fla. – A Key West man who was wanted on multiple warrants was arrested Monday night after a pizza delivery man called 911 to report a domestic disturbance.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the man was delivering a pizza to a home on Stock Island about 8 p.m. when he heard a woman and two children inside pleading with him to call police.

When deputies arrived, Taurean Roberts, 30, had already left the home, Herrin said.

Roberts' pregnant 28-year-old wife and two children, ages 8 and 13, were inside the home.

According to the family, Roberts entered the home through the laundry room, pulled out a knife and was yelling for "his stuff."

Herrin said the children tried to call 911 from their cellphones, but Roberts smashed the phones against the wall, breaking them.

Herrin said he grabbed the 13-year-old girl by her neck and pushed his wife against the TV, knocking her to the ground.

While deputies were speaking with Roberts' wife, she received a phone call saying that Roberts had gotten a ride in a white Mercedes from a woman who lives nearby.

Deputies found the car parked in the driveway of the home.

According to Herrin, Roberts was found lying on the floor in one of the bedrooms, attempting to hide from authorities.

While he was being taken into custody, Roberts threatened his wife and the two children, saying, "They better give me 50 years because I am going to make sure they get theirs," Herrin said.

Roberts was arrested on charges of child abuse, aggravated battery by strangulation, obstruction of justice, preventing someone from calling 911 and aggravated battery on a pregnant person. He was also charged with outstanding warrants for fleeing and eluding police, three counts sale of cocaine, two counts of using a two-way communications device to facilitate a felony, two counts of driving with a suspended license and failure to appear in court.

Herrin said all the warrants are related to Key West Police Department cases.
