Plane skids off Orlando International Airport runway

Runway closed as precautionary measure

A Southwest Airlines plane skidded off one of the Orlando International Airport runways Tuesday night.

ORLANDO, Fla. – A runway at Orlando International Airport was closed Wednesday morning after a Southwest Airlines plane skidded off the lane Tuesday night.

OIA spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell said a Southwest Airlines 737 aircraft was moving from a gate to the maintenance facility on airport grounds Tuesday night when it somehow ended up off the taxiway.

Fennell said there were no passengers on the plane at the time of the incident. Two crew members were on board, but they were not injured.

The runway was closed as a precautionary measure, but three other runways remained open.
