Police: 2 shot in Miami; Victim strikes back at robber

Detectives say man who was approached shot alleged robber

MIAMI – Police identified the two men involved in a shooting following an attempted robbery Tuesday evening.

Miami police said the incident occurred at 7:30 p.m. in the 7000 block of NW 15th Avenue.

Officers said they had received reports of gunshots heard outside of an apartment building at the location.

According to detectives, Wilbert Tillman was approached by an armed black man, identified by police as 20-year-old Milton Devon Johnson, who demanded his belongings.

In the interim, police said Johnson shot Tillman, striking him in the hand. In fear for his life, Tillman pulled out a handgun and shot Johnson multiple times.

Both Tillman and Johnson were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Unit. Police said the Johnson died shortly after arriving to the hospital.

Tillman sustained non-life threatening injuries to his hand.
