MIAMI – Police arrested a thief they believe to be responsible for stealing surveillance cameras and copper wiring from three schools in Miami.
Miami-Dade Public Schools police arrested Bernard Aaron on Wednesday. He is facing several charges of grand theft and burglary. His bond is set at $60,000.
Lt. Raul Correa with Miami-Dade Public Schools police told Local 10 News that at least eight cameras worth an estimated $10,000 were stolen from iTech at Thomas A. Edison Educational Center, Jose De Diego Middle School and Edison Park Elementary.
Police also say the thefts occurred multiple times at those schools from Sept. 2013 to Sept. 2014.
"It's a significant target area at the schools, obviously endangering the surveillance capabilities that we have and just becoming a nuisance to the school community," said Correa.
School Board police say they got a Crime Stoppers tip and that led them to the subject. After he was taken into custody, Police say he agreed to speak with them about the thefts. He was later transported to jail, where he could face a judge this morning in bond court.
