Three robbers approached Martinez as he stood by his pickup truck and demanded his gold chain, police said. Before running away, one of the robbers shot him in the stomach.

Martinez was doing his laundry. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died.

"When they see somebody with a flashy watch or chain, they're looking for the opportunity when this person's not looking, not paying attention," said Miami Police Sgt. Freddie Cruz.

Homicide detectives have surveillance video that shows a vehicle leaving the area. A description of the robbers wasn't immediately released.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Miami Police Homicide Unit at 305-603-6350 or Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
