MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Police on Friday identified the man suspected of sexually battering a tourist at her hotel on Ocean Drive in South Beach.

Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Derrick Jackson.

The sexual battery happened on Sept. 6 at the Hotel Breakwater, 940 Ocean Drive, said Miami Beach Police Sgt. Bobby Hernandez. About 4:30 a.m., Jackson followed the woman into the elevator and told her that he was getting off on the same floor.

When they walked out, Jackson overpowered her, said Hernandez.

"Put her into some type of hold, walked into her hotel room, where he sexually assaulted her," he said.

Hernandez said Jackson then stole money from the woman and ran away.
